Photography has had a special place in my heart. For years I used point and shoot cheap digital camera, you see my earlier pictures done mostly in digital format... For now, I’ve tried many professional digital SLR cameras like Pentax *istD, Canon D20 and even highest end cameras like the Canon D1 mk2, but in a strange way, as time goes on and digital cameras and digital post production rapidly evolves, I’m pulled even more towards to the film photography. No, it’s not a protest, it’s nothing personal, it’s not a cause of “film’s better than digital” or vice versa argumentation, it’s purely what my soul sees through my eyes and what choice it makes. Maybe it has something to do with my little bit vain character to differ from others, maybe something else, but in any case I prefer analogue and alternative photography. I tend to use less known b&w films like MACO, I use alternative processing on enlarging the photos.
Most of the pictures you see are scans from the negatives and positives. Some are from the photographic paper (Jaan ’05 for example where I used lot of LITH processing), but what I feel is that no scanner and computer monitor can give you the emotion of really seeing an alternative processed photo from your own hand, so these photos stay in my drawer, if you ever come by, ask for them...
About over 90% of the pictures I shot are done on the film. I use medium format equipment, previously I used 6x6 formats, the Kiev 60 and ARAX 60, the last one is just a “tuned up” version of the K60. Currently I’m using Pentax 67 system which is 6x7 format.
